WHAT IS FASTING?

Fasting is a spiritual discipline that is taught in the Bible. Jesus expected His followers to fast, and He said that God rewards fasting.

Fasting means to voluntarily reduce or eliminate your intake of food for a specific time and purpose.

Through fasting and prayer, the Holy Spirit can transform your life. Jesus himself spent time in fasting and prayer during His life on earth.

Fasting helps detach us from this world while prayer re-attaches us to God.

WHY SHOULD WE FAST?

There are many good reasons and even health benefits for fasting. Prayer and fasting is where physical detox meets spiritual transformation. Our CALL TO FAST AND PRAY every Tuesday is for ten primary reasons:

  • Spiritual breakthroughs. To free ourselves from sin, particularly habitual sin. (Isaiah 58:6-8, Matthew 17:18-21)
  • To bring solution to a problem or difficult situation. (Ezra 8)
  • For Revival. (1 Samuel 7)
  • To break negative emotions (depression, despondency, fear, hopelessness, insecurity, etc.) 1 Kings 19
  • To receive divine guidance for major decisions. (Acts 9:9, Acts 13:2-3)
  • For revelation, favor and health. (Daniel 10, Daniel 9:3)
  • For favor and ever-widening circle of influence. (Matthew (9:14-15, John 1:6-7)
  • For protection against danger and for favor. (Esther 4:15-16)
  • To overcome temptation. (Luke 4:2)
  • For a healthy body. It has been found by medical researches that fasting even if it did not include prayer (non-spiritual fast) has several health benefits.

TYPES OF FASTING?

There are many types of fasts, and the option you choose depends upon your health, the desired length of your fast, and your preference.

  • A Water Fast - means to abstain from all food and juices and drink only water.
  • A Partial Fast - means to eliminate certain foods or specific meals.
  • A Juice Fast - means to drink only fruit or vegetable juices during meal times.
  • A Dry Fasting - means to avoid all food, beverages, and water to dedicate yourself to a time of prayer.
  • Fasting from Social Media and Tv - This helps bring the presence of God back into focus.

Whichever type of fast you choose, it is important to remember that the focus should not be on what you can or can not eat. The focus of fasting is to connect with God in prayer and disconnect from the world. In fact, if you abstain from food without spending time in prayer, you may as well call it a diet!

CAUTION!

It's important to ensure you're listening to both the Holy Spirit and your own body in the way you fast. If you notice that you can not fast much longer due to health reasons, please break your fast or better still, speak to your physician first before you attempt abstaining from food altogether.

There are many ways to ensure you are getting the physical nourishment you need while still enjoying the spiritual nourishment fasting and prayer has to offer. If you are able to do only a partial fast - do it in faith and God will honor your intentions.

WHEN DO WE FAST AND PRAY?

We fast and pray every Tuesday. Depending on your strength and experience you may fast and pray with us from 6:00am to 12:00pm or 24 hours prayer and fasting.

Harken unto this Call To Fast And Pray every Tuesday, to grow your spiritual life.
